Wow, a life changing experience that will live with me forever. From the moment we landed in Cusco, we were greeted with the highest quality of service. Travel Designer Tito accompanied us around the city and explained the details of our 5 day spiritual journey, ensuring that we were prepared for the trip. He then handed us off to our Guide, a beam of sunshine, superwoman Soledad. Our journey on the trail began with Maestro Shaman Justino playing the flute to an Inkan tune of encouragement. We hiked up to the majestic Humantay Lake where Justino performed the first ceremony. Soledad translated the Quechuan language and walked us through the meditation. That night chef Fredy prepared a spectacular multi course meal and we spent hours around the table getting to know one another. Every day became more rich and fulfilling as we gained a true understanding of the Inka culture. Along the trail Soledad shared her knowledge about the flora and the healing attributes. Justino personalized the ceremonies and provided offerings that directly related to our lives. On day 3, I celebrated my 37th lap around the sun. Fredy went above and beyond and made a strawberry birthday cake with very limited kitchen facilities. Every meal was 5 star, reflecting his extraordinary culinary skills. From the high alpine of the sacred Salkantay to the jungle alongside the headwaters of the Amazon, the positive energy around this region is palpable, not to mention the impressive change of landscape. But the hiking is not for the faint of heart. The elevation change is big, with the majority of the Salkantay pass being downhill. Word of advice, go into the trip strong so you can feel healthy and ready to experience a journey of a lifetime. The Inkas really did find a slice of heaven. I will forever be grateful for my new Peruvian family and the beauty of the Inka culture. Thank you Travel & Healing for showing me the Inka way!
