A trip of a lifetime. It was a dream to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. We were there during the protests in Peru and were not sure if we could do this since everything was closed. We were so fortunate to be among the first group to step in after the protest. There were seldom any other travellers so we had most of the sites to ourselves. The tour company was incredibly nice. The camping sites were well maintained. The hike on the second day to the dead woman`s pass was somewhat ardous but well worth the effort. The guide carried Oxygen tanks in case of altitude sickness. Although, we really spent a good amount of time in Cusco and dis some short hikes which helped us to acclimatise. The view of Machu Picchu from Sungate was rewarding, again there were not many people so we could really spend time soaking in the views and the guide never made us feel rushed. The accommodation in Aguas Calientes was cozy, ideal after the three day hike. The guide who accompanied us on the fourth day to Machu Picchu was very nice and sppoke good English as well. He really took effort in sharing information about the Inca history and Andean traditions. This was truly an expereince of a lifetime and the tour company was very attentive to details.
