This trip was way beyond the ordinary. It was a great experience we will remember for many years.
Our guide, Luis, was with us the whole time giving us information about where we were. He did a great job and I can tell he really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy.
The hiking, views and wildlife (LLAMAS AND ALPACA mostly) were fantastic.
We stayed at a different location each night.
In Huacahuasi, we stayed (camped outside) of a native Incan family and experienced a little bit of their amazing culture.
The second day started from Huacahuasi to Abra Ipsay pass 15,093’ elevation. We had a “Earth God” celebration with the cocoa leaves. We saw wild Chinchilla right befor the pass.
(We had been in Cusco 2 days prior to the trek so we had minimal issues with the high altitude.)
Later on the second day we ended up in Petacancha where we took a lift to our next resting spot Ollantambo.
The third day was more restful. We stayed at a private residence (modern,) and had a great sleep. The next day was more restful traveling. That morning, we toured the free ruins there then boarded the train to Aqua Calientes which is the “base camp” to get to Machu Picchu. Because of the attraction there are *a lot* of people there, still, everyone was friendly. We did some natural hot springs there then had dinner and went to bed to wake up early the next morning for our bus ride to Machu Picchu.
Our last day was Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu both were spectacular. Our friends, Jackie and Andrew got engaged at the summit of Huayna Picchu.
