  • Ponte Pedonal Metalica de Peso da Regua, Peso Da Regua, Portugal
    The metal bridge was built in 1872 by King D. Luís I for crossing the Douro River and has been deactivated since 1949 due to the state of degradation of the wooden board. We had a fantastic experience with Mario! He arranged to pick us up at our rental which was quite far away from their usual area in Regua, and despite the rainy weather we had a lovely day visiting two different quintas for wine/port tastings as well as an amazing lunch. Mario is very knowledgable of everything in the area and has great insights into the wine business having worked in it for years. Highly recommend this experience!

Mario picked us up promptly at our planned arranged time. Just my wife and I, we got into his very clean van and proceeded from Vidago headed south. Along the way, our guide, in excellent English, described our plan for the day and all during the day filled us in on historic anecdotes relating to our locations and regarding Portugal in general. Once we got to wine country Mario discussed the wine industry in depth. After all he was a wine maker and seller when he was younger. Very knowledgeable. We stopped at two Quintas for tastings and had lunch in a charming small town along the route for an excellent meal. It was one of our best meal in the ten days we were in the country. Prior to our drive back "home" we sailed Rio Douro. We felt safe all day. We would recommend Mario to anyone for a great day along the Douro River for a Grade A wine tour.
