Water travel from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap has always been difficult due to the ever changing water levels on the tonle sap lake, even in the wet season when the water levels are high enough you have other issues, such as storms on the lake that can make the crossing treacherous. Also the sheer boredom of crossing the lake as there is nothing to see apart from vast swathes of water. These issues have been overcome by using the luxury, specially-designed cruisers, the Mekong Tara Prince (once owned by the Prince of Cambodia) or our Mekong Explorer,to cruise up the beautiful Tonle Sap River to Prek Kdam or the Mekong river to Roka Kaong (depending on weather conditions). Once there you will be transferred to a private, air-conditioned minivan to travel around the Lake to Siem Reap. This way you get to see the awesome river and rural life on the river together with rural life on land.We are the only ones doing this trip,but for the intrepid traveler it is the best way to explore Cambodia.

The river ride was excellent. We were not expecting a 5+ hour drive afterwards. It would be helpful to others if this was clearly stated in the description. Because entrance to Tonle Sap lake was included I assumed we would actually be going there.

Funkade bra med upphämtning från hotellet. Vår guide på båten var jätte trevlig och berättade mycket om Kambodja. Båten var stor och fin och lunchen god. Nackdelen var att det inte fanns säkerhetsbälte i minibussen som tog oss andra halva vägen till Phnom Penh.

The crew of the Queen Tara ship were super friendly and lunch was delicious but this was an overall disappointing experience. For a river experience, instead book a sunset cruise in Phnom Penh on the same ship the river views quickly become non-inspiring once you leave town. As a means of getting from PP to Siem Reap, it's just slow and very expensive. Go by bus or van both faster and much cheaper or fly similar cost or cheaper.
