Without a doubt the most upsetting place that I have ever visited, for anyone interested in contemporary conflict this is a must see.
One of the more chilling statistics is that you would have stood a greater chance of surviving Auschwitz than S21. The fact there are still some survivors (only 7 survived incarceration here) is truly astonishing. I had the privilege of meeting Bou Meng one such survivor.
Everyone in the group I was with was touched by this place.
The Killing fields seems more tranquil, and it is until you realise what the site was used for and its methods.
I hope the Cambodian authorities keep these places open to remind us just how cruel people/regimes ca be.
