    Big Buddha Phuket is a 45-meter-tall white marble statue visible from anywhere in the southern part of Phuket. It is probably at the top of everyone’s ‘Must-Do in Phuket‘, and for a good reason. The views from up there are breathtaking. The statue is built with people’s donation and is still under construction. If you feel like doing something to help to finish the broad base of the Buddha

  • Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), Chalong, Thailand
    many temples found on Phuket island, the Wat Chalong temple is the largest and most revered. The temple complex was built in its current location in 1837. Lots of places to see and explore in a short amount of time. This is a fast-paced tour with stops in every attraction for not more than 30 minutes, which is good and more than enough. If you are doing the afternoon trip, make sure you eat lunch or bring snacks as they are not many options until the end when you go to the market. The gems and jewellery experience was the only downside as the girls are too pushy to sell you something. Other than that, this was an amazing trip to see all in half a day.

Na ophaling in het hotel waren we met 8 personen in een minibus voor deze halve dag excursie. Er was een chauffeur en een gids mee. Eerst stopten we bij het Kata beach viewpoint. Mooi voor enkele foto's, maar stelt anders niet zoveel voor. Daarna door naar de Big Buddha, heel mooi, doch gezien je maar 30minuten tijd hebt moet je je haasten om alles gezien te hebben. Daarna naar Wat Chalong Temple. Ook hier heel mooi, doch terug slechts een halfuurtje tijd. Dan naar de Cashew Nut Factory, waar je gewoon aan één machine ziet hoe ze noot breken en eruit halen. Voor rest niets van het productieproces. Daarna kan je een aantal variëteiten proefen en is het vooral het winkeltje die van belang is. Daarna naar de Bee Farm, waar na enkele minuten wandelen door de tuin en twee bijensoorten, je in het winkeltje komt en er veel uitleg wordt gegeven over de producten en teveel de nadruk wordt gelegd op de verkoop. Daarna werden we afgezet aan een gebouw, waar vooral juuwel, sieraden en handtassen worden gekocht en je continue een verkoopster aan je zijde kreeg. Dit was niet voorzien in het programma en hoogst opdringerig om te verkopen. Daara de laatste stop in Phuket old town, waar we een 40tal minuten kregen om wat rond te kuieren. Daarna terug naar het hotel. Ongeveer een 5 à 6 uur weg geweest. Tempel, Buddha en Phuket is interessant. Al de rest is puur verkoop en onnodig. De gids doet trouwens niets meer dan zeggen waar we naar toe gaan en hoeveel tijd je hebt. Dus geen uitleg ter plaatse bij de bezienswaardigheden. Enkel een chauffeur die een klein beetje Engels kon was dan ook voldoende geweest. Teleurgesteld in deze trip!

Even though it was a half day experience, it seemed like a full day. So happy we got to experience so many places!
