    You will begin your tour with a warm welcome from your expert guide who will take you directly into the excavations of Pompeii with skip-the-line access! Your guide will take you on a journey through ancient road mapping, residential planning and marvel sewage systems. Being a valuable commercial trade town, your guide will also take you around the “shops” which lined the streets to catch the attention of traveling tradesmen. The walk through these excavation grounds is fascinating, and you are sure to hear stories worth reading up on once you are back home. You will be visiting the Forum of Pompeii, the pulse of the city where residents practiced religious, economic and commercial life.     Just a short 5 miles southeast of Naples lies an ancient town which is known by archaeologists, locals and history lovers, a town whose richness and history is on par with that of Pompeii: Herculaneum. Your guide will accompany you on a quick ride to the this site to begin the second half of your adventure. The town of Herculaneum is often noted as a “better preserved” Pompeii as the volcanic material which covered it helped preserve not only the framework of the homes and buildings, but also the more delicate materials such as wood and other natural substances. This makes for an archaeologist and tourist’s dream! You get to see the very beds and even food remnants left behind from that deadly day. There is no closer look into history than a walk around Herculaneum. Depending on the route for the day, some of the attractions you will see in Herculaneum include the House of Galba, the Thermal Baths and wonderful mosaic floors, the Samnite House and plenty more.

We booked the private tour. After Fabrizio drove us from Rome to Naples, we met our tour guide Florenzia. Her knowledge of both sites is tremendous. We started with Herculaneum. There you can still see intact multi-story buildings and get an impression of how life was at the time. After a short lunch break we went to Pompeii. Here are only walls to see, but a huge area with amphitheater and many other buildings. We could only look at a few highlights. For a detailed tour you need days, which we unfortunately did not have. Afterwards Fabrizio drove us back to the hotel in Rome. We enjoyed the trip very much and can only recommend the side trip to Naples.

This was amazing! I highly recommend it! I wasn't sure how long of a day this would be but I wasn't bad at all and I loved it. My 2 boys ages 15 and 14 loved it too. We met a LivTour person at the main train station, who gave us tickets for our high speed train to Naples. Then we met another LivTour Guide in Naples , who took us on a local train to Pompeii. She was our tour guide for the rest of the day. I feel like that was a lot easier than a long 3 hr car ride from Rome to Pompeii. We never waited in a long line. Our guide was great! She was so knowledgeable about the area, the history of Pompeii, and answered l our questions. She was also a pleasure to be with. We then went to Naples for lunch at a beautiful waterfront restaurant. I feel like LivTours know how to do tours the right way. They have small groups (of 6!) dont do a private tour. The guides are all from the local area too. I learned so much from this tour, this was one our favorite tours.

Ima was a fabulous guide! She was fun, articulate, and made the cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii come alive for us and our 5 teenagers. We were absolutely thrilled with our day, and it was one of the highlights of our 10-day trip to Italy. Cannot recommend this tour strongly enough. Thank you for an incredible day!
