Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius are the undisputed protagonists of the 79 AD eruption. Get to know more about it with this incredible full day experience. You will visit Pompeii in a small group tour led by an Archaeologist guide who will show you the best highlights of the site like the Forum – the main square of the city –, the main houses and buildings. Then meet the hiking guide in the afternoon and leave with our minibus for up to 14 people with direction to Mount Vesuvius. As arrive at Vesuvius entrance first 30 minutes up to the crater there's a steep walking to reach the top. Hike the volcano and reach the top of it: look inside the still quiescent crater and wonder at the amazing landscape around you and the beautiful panorama overlooking the Bay of Naples. At the end of the excursion be brought back to Pompeii where the tour began.

Our tour guide brought the story of Pompeii to life by giving details of some of the people who lived and died in some of the structures we saw. He also did a nice job of explaining various aspects of life in Pompeii and the purposes of various structures...a much richer experience than if we had explored on our own.

Sehr netter Empfang vom Guide Mario am Treffpunkt. Basic Fakten auf dem Hinweg. Angenehme Fahrt durch den Fahrer Francesco. Rücksichtsvoller Aufstieg mit einigen Pausen und weiteren Fakten zum Vesuv. Entspannter Rundgang um den Krater mit faszinierenden Ausblick.

The Pompeii part of the tour gave us a snapshot of the ruins. The guide took us to a few of the notable areas—there's only so much of this vast place that can be covered in the 2-hour tour time. I'd heard that you should leave at least 4 hours to explore the park and that's definitely the case. Our guide did point out other areas of the ruins to see for those who wanted to stay longer. There seemed to be a delay and disorganization with embarking on the second part of the tour - they told us to meet at the entrance at 1pm and we only ended up leaving around 40 minutes later. This was slightly annoying as we'd exited the ruins in a rush to get to the meeting point, and could have used the extra time to explore. That's my only reason for deducting a star. Once we got going, everything went smoothly. While on the bus, our guide Mario provided a lot of great information about the history of Vesuvius and volcanoes in general. He paced the hike well for those who were a bit slower. We did have very bad luck with our afternoon as it started pouring with rain as soon as we reached the top, and the thick cloud meant zero visibility of the crater. Mario did his best with what we were working with, hung around for longer in case the cloud cleared and seemed genuinely disappointed that our group missed out. Once we were dropped back at the Pompeii park entrance, my partner and I actually bought another entry ticket so that we could go back in and explore until closing.
