The origin of Alvarinho takes place between the river and the mountain. The presence do Alvarinho de Monção and Melgaço extends from the Rio valley Minho.  The Alvarinho of this sub-region is not very exposed to influence of the sea and has, as one of the conditions favorable to its development, the thermal amplitude at maturation, characterized by for hot days and cold nights. This factor contributes to the protection of aromas and for the persistence of flavor, retaining its freshness. Young or more adult, this Vinho Verde always preserves its character when over the years.
