From start to finish I thought this day out was excellent. The crew were attentive and professional the whole time. As people have already said and I feel I need to put this as well, It’s a 3 hour boat trip out to the islands where you will get to do a short tour around the nature reserve & an opportunity to go for a swim and then a 3 hour trip back again. This is not hiking around the islands!!! Due to conservation concerns we were only able to do the paths marked out which made sense. The boat trip both ways was a little rough but good fun and everyone enjoying watching each other get soaked. Please ensure you take the correct clothing, weather changed from boiling hot to cloudy and spray coming onboard from the rough sea. There are seats on the boat where it is under cover and mainly dry. The food was very good and they catered for everyone’s needs. Please be aware food is obviously cold! We had vegetarian options, Pork, fish, potatoes, beans, bread and a great selection of salads. Alcoholic and soft drinks were available on board. There are toilets on board where you can change into swimming gear if needed. I parked in the multi-story car park near the cable car, worked out at €15 for the days parking. All together it was a great day out with amazing view of the islands.

It was fantastic, what a pleasure to discover this small isolated but preserved desert pebble! The trip on the boat was great (6 hours in all), we could admire Funchal and the Madeira coast from an unusual point of view. The crew was perfect and our guide (a lady) very kind and available, who knew how to interest us in the hidden “treasure” of the Ilhas Desertas. We then enjoyed a moment of relaxation and swimming in the creek near the boat where we could test paddle and snorkel. Lunch is included in the service and we were able to drink saying no worries thanks to the bar available on board. Be careful, plan clothes that you do not regret wearing wet , the splashes of waves can surprise us and sunscreen.I recommend and I loved.
