However, Guimarães is much more than the well-renowned 10th-century castle. The old town encompasses 14th-century buildings, a previous Jewish quarter, defensive and military structures against the Moors during the Dark Ages, and much more. 'Couldn't have been WORSE! 'Just my wife and me on our only full day there in this incredibly beautiful city and our guide was a NO SHOW!!! After waiting in the designated meeting spot for 30 mins. tried calling the local number provided by Trip Advisor and only after perhaps as many as 10 attempts did I get an answer. The person advised that the guide "just couldn't make it today" and offered no other explanation though he did say that he was sorry and that we would get a refund but I'm not sure even yet that such has come through. That day SOMEONE could've at least advised us the guide wasn't going to show! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME & A GREAT FRUSTRATION!!!
