In this tour we visit Monsaraz. We would never allow that when coming to our region you could miss this incredible village. With breath taking views you can wonder the streets and feel that in there the time stopped. On the way there we will also visit a pottery shop at São Pedro do Corval. Located next to the biggest artificial lake of Europe, this amazing site was during centuries one of the most important castles of the region. A place of many trades and stories. Where the Portuguese fought many battles building the destination of the country. The whole village is UNESCO heritage, discovering it is a unique experience where the most beautiful landscapes will be unveiled. To finish big you will have the opportunity of participating in a wine tasting session, with wines that probably you have never heard, seen or tasted.

The first stop is at a pottery workshop, where we saw 2 potters at work at the wheel, as well as the later painting and dipping it in the liquid glass glaze. Then we visited the hilltop village of Monsaraz. This is an amazing pittoresk village which was abandoned in the 18th century, but has been nicely renovated with some people living there again. There is a pretty well preserved fresco of the good and bad judge, and a small castle. Finally, there is a wine tasting in the village. The guide is very knowledgeable, but also allows a lot of freedom. Monsaraz is not at all touristic, and we were nearly alone in the village.

This was our third tour to Monsaraz with João (we try to take friends to Evora when they visit us in Cascais) and we all had a fantastic time. Joao is the best tour guide we have experienced and he always makes it interesting, educational and fun! The activities he includes provide a flavor for the region (Alentejo) and,of course, the wine tasting! This is at least our 8th outing with João and we will keep doing them!

EXCEPTIONAL!!! I can only recommend everyone to book this tour if you wish to visit Monsaraz but mostly if you want to learn about Portuguese history and culture. Our guide, João, he is just the best. We learned so much from him, it was amazing. I would love to meet with him again next time I go to Portugal. It's definitely THE best tour I ever did so far!
