Was a bit worried that this could be a bit ordinary being only a half day and being valley side after some of the high mountain trails. Being south of the island meant hot sun for us and the levada was reliably level so easy walking. The path itself was often narrow with precarious drops but one man's precarious is another man's spectacular views. Even a short tunnel towards the end. So many flowers and butterflies to see.
Just 2 small negatives - there was quite a lot to fit in and although our excellent guide stopped a lot in the early stages, after the village it was more or less non stop which led some of the party to request a drinks stop. Also this is supposed to be a sugar cane walk but apart from a couple of fields on the way up the to the start it turned out that the tall plant unthought was cane was actually for basket weaving not sugar. Finally just a mention to our bus driver. All in a day's work for an islander I'm sure but for me the steep, narrow, twisty roads with their spectacular views are better from a passenger perspective. All in all a lovely morning
