The original medieval residence, set on a rock above the Vltava River, was later converted into a Baroque fortress surrounding a peaceful park that offers spectacular views of the city. Visit the neo-Gothic Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul to witness the beautiful Art Nouveau decor, walk through the adjoining Vyšehrad Cemetery - where the most prominent personalities of Czech culture, science and politics have been buried - and explore Vyšehrad’s hidden underground casemates.

    Meet your guide in the centre of Prague right in front of the entrance to the National Museum at the top of Wenceslas Square. Following a short metro ride, you will be awe-struck by the enchanting view of Prague as you make your way to the Fort.

  • Vysehrad National Cultural Monument, Prague, Czech Republic
    Enter the gates of the baroque fortress and walk through the spacious park area which holds hidden treasures including the Romanesque Chapel of St. Martin from the late 11th century. Then visit the Collegiate Church of Saints Peter and Paul (attached to Vyšehrad’s Royal Collegiate Chapter) which was radically rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in the late 19th century and is decorated with Art Nouveau frescoes. Continue walking through the adjoining cemetery where you can see the graves of some of the most notable Czech artists such as Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana, Alfons Mucha, and Karel Čapek. Slow down and find out who they were and what was special about their lives. Take your time enjoying the stunning views of the city and if you still want to see more, enter the underground casemates inside Vyšehrad’s fortification walls housing some of the original Baroque statues from Charles Bridge!

Marta did a great job leading our Vysehrad Castle tour and showing us the grounds. The Castle and the grounds were very interesting and offered great views of Prague.

Vind het wat overroepen wat betreft de bezoekmoeite. Maar wat me bijbleef is vooral het kerkhof. Het terrein op zich is wel mooi maar geen waauhw!

Nous avons parcouru l'extérieur du château gratuitement et vous pouvez à la carte payer pour visiter la cathédrale, la ruelle d'or ou bien encore grimper en haut du clocher pour la vue. Un accès restreint gratuit est possible pour la cathédrale. Méfiez vous des packages souvent plus onéreux... Pas de queue pour notre part. La relève de la garde à 12h part du coin droit de la première cour pour rejoindre l'entrée des deux guérites.
