Villa Borghese, Rome, Italy Villa Borghese is a landscape garden in the naturalistic English manner in Rome, containing a number of buildings, museums (see Galleria Borghese) and attractions. It is the third largest public park in Rome (80 hectares or 197.7 acres) after the ones of the Villa Doria Pamphili and Villa Ada. The gardens were developed for the Villa Borghese Pinciana ("Borghese villa on the Pincian Hill"), built by the architect Flaminio Ponzio, developing sketches by Scipione Borghese, who used it as a villa suburbana, a party villa, at the edge of Rome, and to house his art collection. The gardens as they are now were remade in the early nineteenth century. 60 minutes
Galleria Borghese, Rome, Italy The Galleria Borghese (English: Borghese Gallery) is an art gallery in Rome, Italy, housed in the former Villa Borghese Pinciana. At the outset, the gallery building was integrated with its gardens, but nowadays the Villa Borghese gardens are considered a separate tourist attraction. The Galleria Borghese houses a substantial part of the Borghese collection of paintings, sculpture and antiquities, begun by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V (reign 1605–1621). The Villa was built by the architect Flaminio Ponzio, developing sketches by Scipione Borghese himself, who used it as a villa suburbana, a country villa at the edge of Rome.
Scipione Borghese was an early patron of Bernini and an avid collector of works by Caravaggio, who is well represented in the collection by his Boy with a Basket of Fruit, St Jerome Writing, Sick Bacchus and others. Other paintings of note include Titian's Sacred and Profane Love, Raphael's Entombment of Christ and works by Peter Paul Rubens and Federico Barocci. 90 minutes

Marta was amazing. Her knowledge and passion shine throughout our visit. Her understanding of construction and composition brought new insights. Neither of us had a detailed knowledge of mythology and Marta’s background information added so much to our experience and appreciation. I particularly liked her showing us different views of the same sculpture. She was honest and caring.
At the end of the Tour when she realised we didn’t have tickets for the Colosseum, she found a web site, booked us in and got us a taxi.

We met Azzurra, our fabulous guide, in front of the Borghese Gallery about 15 minutes early for the appointment. Azzurra took us on a short walk through the grounds and provided excellent backgound on the museum and the family that owned the palace. Then we embarked on an incredibly informative tour of the museum with outstanding commentary by Azzurra. Both my husband and I are ardent museum lovers and although we knew something about this period of art, Azzurra's deep knowledge and understanding of the works displayed in the Borghese was amazing. We learned so much and realized how much her commentary provided both the depth and understanding of what we observed in this fabulous museum. We heartily recommend the Eyes of Rome and, in particular, Azzurra, if you want an unforgettable tour of the Borghese!

Our recent tour of the Borghese Gallery and grounds was the perfect way to complete our Rome stay. Rosie was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the art and the artists. She made sure that we saw a variety of the most important art in the gallery. She also walked with us back to the hotel showing us interesting places along the way. We definitely recommend this tour!
