    The oldest structures in Cairo date back only to the last couple of centuries BC during Greco-Roman period; however, on the fringes of the city stand the Giza Pyramids, some of the oldest structures on Earth. Despite their proximity to Cairo, the difference in age between the pyramids and the city itself are proof of their different histories. The pyramids at Giza and elsewhere in the desert near Cairo are a part of the legacy of an older city and civilization that fell into decline long before Cairo was founded. This civilization named this area Memphis, which was the seat of power to the Old Kingdom (2686—2181 BC) of Ancient Egypt, home to the pharaohs that raised the pyramids.

  • Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids, Saqqara, Egypt
    Saqqara is one of several other notable necropolis sites near Cairo that offer impressive sights and hold great archaeological significance. In fact, Saqqara may hold more interest to archaeologists than Giza. The huge site hosts burials dating from before the beginning of the Old Kingdom up through the Greek Period of Egyptian history. The most famous structure by far at Saqqara is Djoser’s Step Pyramid. Dating from the 3rd dynasty (2667—2448 BC), it was the first all-stone complex ever built on earth. It also displays an important architectural innovation for the construction of the Giza Pyramids and other later pyramids in the 4th dynasty and later. Djoser’s pyramid was the first to use multiple mastabas (rectangular tomb structures) stacked on top of one another to form a step pyramid.This construction set the stage for the smooth sides of the Giza Pyramids and the smaller 5th and 6th dynasty pyramids that are found at Saqqara and other sites nearby, such as Dahshur and Abu Sir.

We had Nevin across 2 days where she took us to the Old Egyptian Museum, the City of the Dead, Trash city, Saqara, Danshour, Memphis and the Pyramids of Giza. On both days she supplied nice cool water and lunch, even stopping for us to try mangoes from a local farm and cactus fruit. Nevin is so lovely, welcoming and informative, a true expert in the field of Egyptology. We learnt so much about the history of Egypt and the city of Cairo itself which we now appreciate so much more and are in awe of. She also helped us navigate the busyness of Cairo and its touristy parts, informing us of when or when not to tip, and how to avoid getting haggled. We cannot thank Nevin enough for the experience she gave us in Cairo with the little time we had, she truly made our time here so special, making us feel comfortable in a city that can be very hectic. We hope that we can come back soon so that we can explore more of Egypt’s rich history.

Genuinely a higjtst quality tour. Essam our guide was a practicing Egyptologist, teaching at the University, and it showed. We didn't just go to the sites ; rather he showed us the most significant items and gave insightful entertaining details. Abdul our driver in the 11 person minivan modern and clean was super smooth and safe. George the owner provided great communication and coordination. I would recommend hiring them for 2 days, 1 day pyramids, 2nd day museum, to get the most complete understanding of Egyptian history. Truly special

We had a great day on this tour. Marco was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. He looked after us well and made us feel like his family for the day. Mohammed was an excellent driver. First day in Egypt for us was a highlight as a result.
