Escaleras Electricas De La Comuna 13, Medellin, Colombia Our Graffiti Tour in Medellin in Comuna 13 is definitely a must do activity when you come to Medellin
The violent past, the beautiful present and the promising future of this district makes it a magical place and an unforgettable experience.
The street art throughout the whole neighborhood makes it more mind blowing knowing that most of them have a special meaning related to its history.
You get inside in one of those neighborhoods in Comuna 13, the most dangerous Comuna in Medellin only 18 years ago.
Outdoor Escalators in our Graffiti Tour in Medellin:
Comuna 13 is the place where the first non-touristy outdoor electrical escalators in the world were installed.
The escalators were opened in December of 2011 with a cost of 3,5 million dollars and was built to save more than 350 stairs in a very steep hill. 120 minutes

Centro Comercial Premium Plaza, Medellin, Colombia Second Part: Playing Tejo
We will be playing Tejo in a nice place in El Poblado.
Tejo is the Colombian national sport, but much more than that, it is a fun activity that can be played with relative ease by adults and kids alike.
The drive from Comuna 13 to the Tejo place is around 20 minutes.
Once we get to the place we start giving you the instructions on how to play it.
The Graffiti Tour and Tejo includes 1 hour of playing Tejo.
As well as beer, cocktails or food depending on the number of people attending the tour. 30 minutes
Centro Comercial Premium Plaza, Medellin, Colombia How Should the Tejo Be Played?
The setup is pretty simple: there’s a wooden box (called a “pitch”) that’s 35” x 40” and filled with clay. In the middle of the pitch is a metal circle.
Here, four packets of gunpowder (called “mechas”) are arranged at the North, South, East and West points of the metal circle.
There is also a backstop, but if you hit it when you throw any points that you receive are voided.
The goal is to throw your metal puck (called a Tejo) onto one of the mechas so it explodes against the metal ring.
You score even more points if you land your tejo in the center of the ring.
There are many reasons why this is a must-do in Medellin:
It’s fun
It’s authentic
The atmosphere is great
You work out your arms as you need to be tossing a 1-2 kg stone from 10-18 meters.
After one hour of enjoying Tejo we head back to your place with a smile and unforgettable memories. 30 minutes

Love the tour of Comuna 13 and our private guide Erika was fabulous! Learned so much history and was able to really be immersed in the community by meeting local artists, witnessing street performers, and taking in the sights was truly amazing. One of the best tours I’ve taken.

Great tour, really enjoyed it and learned a lot about Medellin and Colombia in the process. We were with kids (8&4) and they really enjoyed it too.
Was also easy to arrange with next day pick up at our hotel. Would recommend.

This Comuna 13 Graffiti tour has given me valuable insights in the troubled past of these ever-expanding San Javier neighbourhoods and it has taught me about the positive changes and the blossoming seeds of hope for a better future for these people.
My guide Daniel was very knowledgeable about the history and the current positive evolution forward of this comuna.
He is also a great person who shares his mind, insights and heart, which is invaluable.
We also went off the beaten touristic path for a while, wandering around in what we could describe as dire living circumstances, which allowed me to expand my mind about a raw reality that was abstract to me.
Thank you very much for this highly recommendable experience.
My excursions with Andres and his team have provided me with so many unforgettable memories.
Not only are they highly proficient in everything they do, they really put their minds, and even more importantly, their hearts into it, which makes all the difference. Communication is always so easy, warm and kind.
It has been a distinct pleasure to have been able to experience some of the marvellous sights Medellín (and its surroundings) has to offer, with them by my side.
I'm already looking forward to going on new adventures with them, next time I'm in Medellín.
(I even registered an account on Tripadvisor, just so I could write the reviews they deserve)
