You will see a Palace in two halves, half Tudor, half Baroque. Highlights include Henry's Great Hall, the Haunted Gallery, King Williams spectacular Staircase, Guard Chamber and the beautiful Versailles style gardens.

I met expert guide, Sheila Dunsmore, right on time at the entrance to Hampton Court Palace. She had communicated with me prior to our tour so that we both knew who and what to expect. Coming from the U.S. with some knowledge of Henry Vlll and all of shenanigans re. his wives, etc. I was thrilled to be walking in the steps of it all. Sheila’s been doing this for years, coming up through the guiding ranks, and it shows. She was warm, enthusiastic, and super informative. The palace has gone through many, many alterations so don’t expect to step into the 1500s. I think it helped greatly to have come with a little historical knowledge. Coming to the palace “cold” would be a much emptier experience. The train from Waterloo Station took 35 minutes, or so. A short walk across the bridge over the Thames at Hampton provided a lovely entrance to the palace. It was a lovely day trip.
