    This specially designed tour helps you understand the history and architect and many other fascinating insights you won’t find elsewhere. 2.5-hour walking tour in the Imperial City, you will learn: Why was Hue chosen as the capital under the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945)? What is unique about the architecture? What were the main influences on the constructions built during the Nguyen Dynasty: Feng Shui or weather conditions? What led to the downfall of the Nguyen Dynasty and many other stories? All these questions will be answered through this tour. With years of accumulated knowledge and a big passion for Hue, I am confident that you will enjoy this tour. Inside Imperial city, we will see: Hien Lam Cac Pavilion, The Mieu Temple, and the Queen Mother Residence. Then heading to Purple Forbidden City to see Kien Trung palace, Royal garden. Important note: * If you book the morning tour, you can watch the Changing Guard Ceremony at 8 am in front of Ngo Mon Gate

I arrived in Hue knowing it was Vietnam’s imperial city, but that’s about it. After taking Matthew’s imperial city tour, I now have such a better understanding of Vietnam’s history and culture. Matthew has such a deep appreciation and passion for sharing his city’s history and stories that you can’t help but get invested in them too. Not only did I learn about the imperial city, but also gained rich knowledge about multiple aspects of Vietnamese history, architecture and its people (for instance, I learned why over 1/3 of Vietnamese have the surname Nguyen. So fascinating!) If you’re interested in gaining a meaningful understanding of Vietnam’s history, forget the audio tour and sign up for Matthew’s tour now! Matthew is such a lovely person too. I also took his Hue food tour after the city tour and it was superb. He connected stories from the imperial city tour with the food tour which felt like such a bonus experience. I highly recommend Matthew and his tour experiences!

Matthew is an extraordinary guide, with a real passion for the site's history and a flair for explaining both the history and significance of many elements of the citadel site. It was a truly in-depth exploration of the citadel and I thoroughly enjoyed it. His command of English is exceptional and he's very happy to answer questions. I had a wonderful time and cannot recommend this tour highly enough!
