Gyumri, Gyumri, Armenia Gyumri is located in the north-western part of Armenia, in the middle of Shirak valley, 126 km far from Yerevan. From the ethnical point of view it is the most colorful city in Armenia. The local traditions are deeply rooted here, national spirit is reflcted in everything. Walking along the streets of old Gyumri one still seems to hear the voice of the smiths' hammers, it seems that a cart will appear from the street corner and the carter will call to show around the city. The old houses, a part of which fortunately resisted the devastating earthquake in 1988, speak of the high architectural achievements of the city. These buildings are notable with their architectural solutions, combination of colorful stone and masterfully elaborated bas-reliefs. Gyumri has always been in the center of cultural events. 180 minutes
Marmashen Monastery, Marmashen, Armenia On the picturesque bank of Akhuryan river there is the magnificent monastery Marmashen built by Duke Vahram Pahlavuni. It is a huge complex, the construction of which started in 986 and finished in 1029. The main church is a domed hall. The facades of the church are elaborated with triangular niches, which endow the edifice with special liveliness. The survived eastern and northern walls of the second church, which is adjacent to the main church, prove that both with its composition and architectural details it is the smaller duplication of the main church. This complex built with well-hewn red tufa on the background of the blue sky casts an enigmatic impression. 40 minutes

Excellent day tour with guide Anna and driver Hamik! Both were superb. The tour was extensive and Anna's knowledge of Armenian history brought to life all the buildings and events she was explaining. I especially enjoyed the walk in the old part of the city. We entered several churches built in different centuries. I especially liked the Mother of God church in the main square but the highlight was the Marmashen monastery set in splendid countryside. Great tour!

I went with Hyur Service to Gyumri on 9th June. Everything was fine with the trip until the very last minute when I was disembarking from the coach. In the overhead storage I had a silver bracelet that I had bought for my wife. It was contained within an ornate box with a closure mechanism. When I tried to get my bag down the bracelet fell out. I scrambled on the floor trying to find it. There was a slight chance that one of my fellow travellers may have stolen it but in all probability it was still there when I was the last passenger on the bus. The guide helped me with a cursory search lasting all of 10 seconds but a more protracted search would have probably found it.
The guide promised me that the driver would search for it and that he himself would inform the office about the matter. The office had not been informed about the bracelet when I went in the next day. in an exchange of emails they denied any responsibility by falling back on their Excemption clause in their contract, which had no legal effect as these terms and conditions were not specifically drawn to my attention at the time I entered into the contract and they didn't cover theft which this clearly was.
In every other respect it was a good tour. If the guide was not in such a desperate hurray to get me off the bus I may well have found it. Nil points for the tour therefore.

We had a great trip with our driver, Arthur. He was very helpful, friendly, kind and attantive. Arthur gave us a lot of interesting information. He took us to the Iron Fountain, when we asked him. Any time we asked him, he stopped for taking photos. We've seen a lot of beautiful places. Our favourite was Aruch Cathedral. Highly recommend!
