The trip to Kazbegi is a must-do for anyone in Georgia, and I highly recommend this one with Select Georgia tours. We saw the Ananuri Castle Complex, the Gergeti Trinity Church, and hiked to the Gveleti waterfall. We also saw a few hidden gems including ancient fire towers, an artist carving faces onto massive stones, and a monastery overlooking the Russian border.
Our tour guide spoke excellent English, and was well versed in the history of the country and the individual sites we visited. As it was a private tour, we asked him a ton of questions about the area, and learned a few words of Georgian. He was patient with us as we explored each site, took pictures, and went at our pace on the hike to the waterfall.
Rather than lunch at a restaurant, we ate at a home that had been turned into a B&B. We had a family-style meal with the entire room to ourselves and incredible view of the mountains in front of us. I'm a vegetarian and they had prepared numerous vegetable dishes so that I had a variety of traditional foods to try - all of it was delicious.
