We will take you to Monção & Melgaço to try the delicious wines made with the Alvarinho grape, considered the noblest varietal of the region. It is a region of old traditions and peculiar looking vines, but also of delicious smoked sausages that pair beautifully with the Red Vinho Verde! You will be doing more than guided visits and wine tastings at 2 familo-owned wineries! You will start the day with a breakfast paired with the infusions created by the winery that will awaken your senses. Enjoy a gastronomic experience with local products like cheese and smoked sausages, explore the properties and see up close the development of the numerous vineyards, the infusion fields and the wine cellars. These two wine estates have surely been pioneers in the production of Vinho Verde DOC wine! Traveling from Melgaço to Monção will really give you the opportunity to take in the green unique landscape of the Vinho Verde region!

Our guide was amazing - picked us up at our hotel for a beautiful drive to vinho verde region. we visited two wineries, the first including lunch with a wonderful host.

Beautiful day in the north of Portugal with my adult son. We visited Saohiero Winery in the morning. The grounds were beautiful and we were offered a delicious light breakfast as well as a tea tasting before the wine tour. The wiinery’s guide was incredibly knowledgeable and we received a a thorough tour of the grounds, the cellars and the bottling and packaging areas. The wines are fantastic and we were given several to taste with a complete education. The facility is newly remodeled and expanded from a family home. Everything is modern and state of the art. We enjoyed Guillerme’s company and leaned so much! A very enjoyable experience. The lunch was so-so in the village and we were seated beneath the TV in the back of the restaurant. I expected a bit more given the price point of the tour. The second winery was Santiago. We were given a tour of the old farm and tasted only two wines with little information other than the family history. Our tour guide was kind and pleasant and we had a great day— carried primarily by the outstanding experience at Saoheiro.

Jorge picked us up on a rainy day but we were soon our of the rain and having a great time in Ponte do Lima, experiencing the local market, tasting pastries and having coffee. From there we went for a wine tasting and then back for a beautiful lunch that included the local red wine drunk from a bowl. I am so sorry that I missed getting a photo of that. Then on we went to another winery to taste yet another beautiful wine from a small vineyard. Jorge is a wonderful guide who will go to any amount of trouble to give you what you expected from the tour. I would recommend that you request him because he is really amazing!
