Los Gemelos, Ecuador Los Gemelos are located in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos Ecuador, on the Puerto Ayora road. The Twins are sinking craters formed by a series of eruptions when the islands were still active. The Twin craters are the only place on the island where the escalesia forest is located.
Several trails have been created that lead to the two craters. In 1989 a circular path was opened around the largest crater, which passes through the interior of the escalesia forest, an excellent place to observe land birds, finches, woodpeckers, the beautiful vermillion flycatcher, among many other species of birds.
Tourists are prohibited from eating fruits on this site, the seeds may fall by accident and could germinate.
Nor are visitors allowed to get too close to the edge of the craters, since their edges can collapse. Nor are people allowed to throw stones or other objects inside the craters.
In the rainy season, visitors are recommended to bring a sweater to protect themselves from the water. In the time of the garúa it may be cloudy early in the morning, but then it clears and when that happens, the weather becomes wonderful and pleasant.

Lava Tunnel, Ecuador On our visit to any of the Private ranch we will be taken to see lava tunnels. They are quite illuminated or both their entry, travel, and exit , can be done easily. In themselves they are or is a tube where lava flow ran thousands and thousands of years ago. This formed an almost perfect tube that was made as the lava passed and solidified. The most impressive is that a double tube was formed here and, at one end of it, it has “two floors” and for certain slits you see both parts or floors and it impresses because you see a day collapse and a floor - the upper one - will fall on the lower one. At that moment you are absolutely impressed and your skin and soul remain in suspense, thinking that - that are thousands of kilos of solid lava - could have fallen on top of you since its thickness is very small. That, that feeling impresses you very much.

Reserva El Chato, Puerto Ayora, Ecuador At the next stop we have known one of the most outstanding attractions of the islands ... the giant Land Tortoises, the galapagos that give name to the archipelago. They can be seen in several places on different islands. One of them, and precisely the one that houses the largest specimens, is this one, the Rancho Primicias,or Ranch el Manzanillo, inside the island of Santa Cruz. Yes they are great. We catch some on the ground, crawling slowly or chewing grass. What a noise they made when it started. But most had soaked in the different pools of the farm. It doesn't surprise me with such heat. But they do theirs, ignoring us completely.

We went on the half day bay tour. the highlight was snorkeling, the captain showed us to where all the fish like to hang out and we got to swim with a sea turtle. The trip included a trip to the gorgeous Las Grietas where you can also snorkel.

We booked this through TripAdvisor and the communication was wonderful. Johnny reached out as soon as we booked and assisted with any questions we had. The night before the trip he confirmed all our details again, recommended what we should pack for the day, and told us who our guide would be. Jaime, our guide for the day arrived exactly on time and we set of. Jaime was so knowledgeable and was great with all the kids questions. We spotted so many animals just in the walk to the bus for the day and he filled us in on so many facts.
We headed toward Santa Rosa and saw the craters, and then headed to the lava tunnels. My father is slightly handicapped and Jaime went above and beyond to assist in accommodating him throughout the day. We then went to the tortoise reserve which was the highlight of the day. We walked and saw so many tortoises.
We went back to town and Jaime recommended a great lunch spot. We had a fabulous day and I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone heading to Santa Cruz!
