On this 10-hour tour we'll visit a beautiful colony of penguins, plus the magical Island of Chiloe. This tour departs daily, early in the morning from Puerto Montt.

  • Canal De Chacao, Chacao, Chile
    We begin the tour in our way to Pargua, south of Puerto Varas city; here we will aboard a ferry to sail through the Chacao Channel, this channel separates the continent of Chiloe Island. During the navigation we see sea wolves, pelicans and sea birds endemic in this area. The ferry berths at Chacao pier, here we see the houses that are built with Alerce wood, and the Churches that are National Heritage Site.

  • Santuario de Aves de Caulin, Chile
    then continue along a coast route and we are going to visit Caulín beach, a place very famous for the oysters an a rich marine fauna.

  • Islotes de Punihuil, Chile
    ater we will go to Puñihuil beach; there we get a boat, that will take us to a small island where we find the magallanes Penguin and Humboldt Penguin, this is the place where this two species make their nests, an during generations they have coexisted together, making this islands the only place in the world where this happens. The tour guide will explain to us the way of life of these birds, the surroundings and the abundance of food that makes possible that these islands become a wild paradise. It’s important to say that Puñihuil was declared National Heritage for its ecological relevance.

  • Fuerte San Antonio, Ancud, Chile
    The San Antonio Fort; this historic place is located in the highest part of the city, built at the latest part of XVIII Century and is part of one of the last Spanish fortications in our country,

    Afer we continue our trip to Ancud city, where we can see the Local Churches Heritage Foundation, the Mains Square, and the Central Market, this one offers many gastronomic and crafts options of the island.

Our guide was great as he did both the driving and commentary along the way. He was very helpful with good English and Spanish. The highlight of the trip was getting to see the wildlife from closer up on the boat trip. Why 3 stars not 5? 1) the trip states Ticket to Navigation Puñihuil Islets not included, but you don't get to see any wildlife (penguins) without, so how can you name the trip to see penguins if it isn't included. One person on our trip didn't have Chilean pesos cash, and this was the only payment option. Fortunately the driver was able to assist. Needless complications 2) the lunch stop at a restaurant felt like we had to have the lunch even though not included. We brought a sandwich but felt awkward not having the restaurant lunch 3) the stops at the towns were uninteresting and felt pointless add ons either to justify a day long trip or another obligation to buy local handcafts etc. Overall, it was still a good trip but would have preferred more time on the boat trip or time looking at wildlife and less "added" time on lunch breaks and stops to look at craft shops.

Los pingüinos fue lo mejor, solo que las embarcaciones son algo pequeñas y el oleaje es fuerte, en tierra firme todo perfecto

Obwohl ausdrücklich ein englischsprachiger Guide bei der Buchung erwähnt war, sprach dieser nur spanisch und unser Spanisch ist leider sehr rudimentär. Wir hätten erwartet, dass wir im Vorfeld darüber informiert werden. Zum Glück konnte uns ein mitfahrender Tourist in gebrochenem Englisch das eine oder andere übersetzen. Auch schriftliche Infos auf englisch hätten uns zur Not genügt. Sehr enttäuschend!
