Villa Comunale, Piazza Plebiscito, 14, 76125 Trani BT, Italy
Trani, Trani, Italy Overlooking a suggestive port where characteristic fishing boats swarm and dominated by the momentum of its most distinctive symbol, that of the splendid Romanesque Cathedral, the city of Trani stands out with its breathtaking scenery, rich in history and harmonious architectural lines, both permeated of the influence of Frederick II of Swabia, who made Trani its maritime fortress. The history of the city has developed over the centuries, becoming the protagonist of its maximum splendor in the 1400s, the century in which
it is formed as a fundamental maritime and trading center of the lower Adriatic and hosts an arsenal of the Serenissima Republic of Venice.
Along a consistent time span, which extends from the Middle Ages
up to the 1700s, many noble palaces rose within the city limits, which have always contributed to enhancing its already appreciable heritage.
Itinerary:
• Beginning of the visit with the port, the symbol of the city. The happy position made it ideal for commercial exchanges which, during the reign of Frederick II, contributed to enrich the city;
• Continuation of the visit to the Fortino, the Villa Comunale and the Cathedral of Trani;
• Visit of the Swabian Castle (payment of the entrance ticket on the spot). The Castle was built in 1233 under Frederick II of Swabia (hence the name of the fortress) and has undergone several changes over the centuries 140 minutes
