If you are interested in knowing how Dominicans really live, their customs, their culture, do not forget to take advantage of this great opportunity. Our transport will pick you up at your hotel, you will start a wonderful trip of approximately one hour until you reach Higüey, the first thing you will do is visit a coffee, cocoa and tobacco plantation, we will explain the process of their harvest and preparation. You will visit a beautiful souvenir shop, made by the owners themselves, later we will move to the cathedral basilica of Higüey, you can enter to enjoy its beautiful architecture. Then we will go to the Higüey market where you can see the local commerce among other things, you will have an incredible panoramic view of the church of San Dionisio, which was the place where the Virgen de la Altagracia made her appearance. Upon returning we will make a brief stop at the beautiful and incredible Macao beach to admire its white sands, at the end our transport will take you back to your hotel.

    Then we will arrive at the place most visited by Dominicans, the Nuestra Señora De La Altagracia Cathedral. The construction began in 1954 and took 17 years to complete. There we can enjoy that magnificent construction, its beautiful interiors and why not, be able to pray for a few minutes.

The cigar factory and the plantation with Miguel and his family were our favorite! Such amazing people and so sweet! Support local and go, they really know their stuff! Edwin was so polite, on time and was a great guide

Edwin was our tour guide and did a fantastic job showing us what life in the DR is like outside of the resorts. Unfortunately, it was good friday and a friday afternoon, so many places were closed (like the plantations). However, Edwin did a great job showing us Basilica Nuestra Señora De La Altagracia and Monumento Histórico Iglesia Parroquial San Dionisio--both beautiful churches in Higuey. Edwin also took us to a corner store for a fantastic price on rum (a quarter of the price at the resorts) and ended our trip by stopping at Macao beach. The drive was fun as well--lots of farms and a view of everyday life in the area. Thanks Edwin for a wonderful start to our trip!

This tour was amazing. Touring the “camping life”/plantation where a real rural Dominican family lives from grandparents to grandchildren and pets was fantastic. They were such kind people and we were able to buy some of their cocoa to help them plus it was delicious. We were also able to try raw fresh off the tree cocoa which was so yummy. Edwin took us to many other stops including a cigar factory where you get to roll your own, the cathedral in Higuey, and a souvenir shop. Our favorite parts were seeing how real Dominican people live outside of the tourist zone. Driving around the busy market and grabbing some local snacks at a store was very fun too. Edwin was so great we booked him for our transport to the airport home as well. His father started this touring company many years ago and they have a great reputation. They can arrange anything you want to do here and you can trust them. Thanks for a wonderful day Edwin!
