A visit to the Historic Village Herberton is like stepping back in time. Showcasing Australia’s rich and diverse history this outdoor pioneer museum is testament to an era that is long gone. This incredible museum collects, preserves and displays fascinating historical exhibits from across Australia. The history of this museum is also closely tied with the township of Herberton and features many priceless antiques as well as buildings that have come from the town’s ancestors. The Village currently features over 60 original buildings that date from Herberton’s foundation years and are as they were originally constructed. Walking through the Village, visitors are given a sense of being in a real township complete with apothecary, bottle shop, school, bank, grocer’s store, frock salon, toy shop, mechanic, jail and more. There is just so much to see and do in this amazing village that it needs to be experienced to understand the full depth of history it offers.

It is recommended visitors allow at least three-hours (or a whole day) to visit this incredible historical museum set on 16 acres in the township of Herberton, just 15 minutes from Atherton.

We spent about 2 hours here but could have spent much longer. Situated on 16 picturesque acres, the grounds are immaculate and very pretty with colourful plantings everywhere. There are excellent paths between each of the exhibits and the exhibits themselves are amazing. A vast collection of items of every description going back through the years - some of which we remembered using ourselves. We were entranced and enthralled! We’ve visited a few historic villages on our travels - but this one was the best I’ve seen! Absolutely highly recommend! You could spend a good number of hours here - so make sure you allow plenty of time!

The amount of work that has gone into separate this place is immense! Detailed and comprehensive, all the exhibits, of which there are many, are excellent, and the insights into earlier li f e are unparalleled. Don't miss it!
