Basilica del Voto Nacional, Quito, Ecuador Our first stop is at a vintage shop where they bake and serve the best Quesadilla in town. Quesadillas in Quito are nothing like Quesadillas in Mexico. Quesadillas in Quito are sweet, fluffy, and crunchy at the same time, a true delight! The neighborhood around the Quesadilla shop is quintessential Quito. We will check out some of the sights and make a quick stop at La Basilica - gothic church in Quito - for some pics.
Mercado Central, Quito, Ecuador After our first local snack we head down to the Central Market. I truly love this market and here you can find some of the best stalls and vendors offering tasty snacks, fruit juice, and much more! We will tour the Central Market, I will explain and comment along the way and we will taste Quito food essentials such as; local Fruit Juice, quirky and endemic fruits, mote surtido (hominy with a mix of grains and bits of pork) and take in the sights and smells of the market. 30 minutes
Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande), Quito, Ecuador Our next stop is the Plaza Grande or Independence Square in the center of Historic Old Town Quito. Here we will check out the Presidential Palace, Cathedral and Archbishops Palace hunting down 3 more food essentials. This will be our lunch stop, we will taste the Empanadas de Morocho (my favorite empanada of all time), a Seco de Chivo (goat stew), or a traditional Quito Ceviche at a local cafeteria/ice-cream shop that has been around since 1858. We will pair these traditional foods with our local Mora (blackberry) flavored soda - Orangine. 90 minutes
VGMQ+MH6, Eduardo Flores, Quito 170133, Ecuador After lunch we head over to San Francisco Church. Calle La Ronda, Quito, Ecuador To finish the day, we will walk down La Ronda Street where we will be able to taste the local cocktail served hot - Canelazo. La Ronda street is a very traditional street of Quito and a must-see while visiting. If we are lucky, we will find the local pubs serving Canelazos the old-fashioned way, from a clay pot or jug. Andres was a great guide. He picked us up right on time and took us to eat some great food. He was very kind and knowledgeable, and we had a great time. It was our first day in Quito and we were tired from traveling. It was a nice, easy tour for our first day. Don’t eat breakfast!

Andres picked us up from the hotel and the first stop was for a breakfast sweet quesadilla fresh from a local family bakery. The rest of the day was a walking tour of Old Town stopping for juices, fruits, sampling of various local dishes, lunch with local menu selections and finally a great stop for coffee. Andres was a great guide - he sure knows his food lol. It was a day we won't forget.
