Commissioned in 1632 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, it was built to enshrine the tomb of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The monument also serves as the final resting place of Shah Jahan himself.

    Spread over a sprawling 94 acres, this massive red sandstone fort lies parallel to the Yamuna River and situated 2 kilometers northwest of the Taj Mahal. The Agra Fort (Red Fort) was originally occupied by Sikarwar Rajputs and was later captured by Lodi rulers of Delhi. In 1526, after the Lodi’s were defeated in the Battle of Panipat, the victor Emperor Babur took over the fort. After losing the fort briefly to the Suri rulers, it was eventually reclaimed by Akbar who made Agra his capital.

Rafiq picked us up from the airport and delivered us safely to our accommodation, stopping briefly at Patrika Gate on the way. He then took us on a day trip Agra to visit the Taj Mahal & Agra Fort, giving us top tips to avoid all of the scams and potential issues we could run into. He is very knowledgeable and kind, we would recommend him to anyone who comes to Jaipur for tours and taxi trips.
