  • Volcano Eyjafjallajokull, Selfoss, Iceland
    Next, we will continue our way in the direction of Thorsmork and head all the way up to Gígjökull, one of the outlet glaciers of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. You can walk entirely to the icefall edge, touch and walk on the glacier. The many craters of this eruption was near to Gígjökull. This caused floodwater to surge from under the glacier’s tongue, flooding the Markarfljót river that flows from it.

  • Stakkholtsgjá canyon, 861, Iceland
    Stakkholtsgja is an up to 100 meters deep and 2 kilometers long canyon in South Iceland. The canyon is located near the entrance to Thorsmork. It has a narrow riverbed and ends in a beautiful waterfall. Stakkholtsgjá Canyon inside Þórsmörk was the filming location used for the famous Wight ambush scene of Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 6.

    After our walk in Stakkholtsgjá canyon, we will follow our way to deep into Thorsmork, the scenic valley of Thor. This will be the best playground for your super jeep: crossing rivers and handling the rough terrain will be a great adventure. Thorsmork is a natural reserve in a remote area of the southern Icelandic Highlands, nestled between the Myrdalsjokull, Eyjafjallajokull and Tindfjallajokull glaciers, and one of the most favorite location for Icelanders and many travelers. The valley is a green oasis between the rivers Krossá, Þröngá and Markarfljót with wide vegetation of moss, birchwood, and other small shrubs. This lush green area contrasts dramatically against the black sand desert of the Markarfljót riverbed and the imposing glaciers around it. Locals swear that Thorsmork is one of the most beautiful destinations in Iceland. This is the reason that many Icelanders come here to hike, ride or just relax among the birch trees with their family. Once we are deep into the Thorsmork valley, you have the opportunity to enjoy the amazing landscape, have lunch and take nice short hikes around the area, and really drink in the beautiful unspoiled nature of Iceland.

  • Nauthusagil Waterfall, Hvolsvollur, Iceland
    Nauthúsagil ravine is a true hidden gem of Iceland’s South Coast. Nauthúsagil’s famed characteristics are the rowan trees growing on the ridges, sometimes horizontally, creating a roof of leaves. We will walk through the narrow ravine and explore its unique, beautiful world. At the end of the ravine, there is an enchanting waterfall waiting for us.

We hired a superjeep day to Throsmork. We read it was an amazing place and we were really looking to discover it as well as enjoying the superjeep experience. First of all, all the staff at Activity Iceland were super friendly and nice, and our 2 stars has nothing to do with them. The trip was ok, but we didn't have any super jeep experience and we weren't able to see anything of the Thorsmork. We assumed that a superjeep can go almost everywhere in Iceland. Specially if the trip is available during winter time. So we hired a superjeep excursion to the remote area of Thorsmork. We were suposed to cross glacier rivers and enter to a valley without roads. Our surprised came when we got stuck just some meters out of the road. There was another company (superjeep) on the area, and they got stuck several times. So we had to wait for them to help geting out. After one hour of driving not even 1 km, the other car decided to turn around. And our guide decided that he doesn't want to be alone on the valley and also turn around. Again, the guide was really nice, but we ended up paying for a superjeep activity in a remote area, but getting a typical south coast tour, that we could have done with a normal bus. The guide took us to a nice beach nearby, yes, but apart from that, we only visit the two big waterfalls in the south, overcrowded of people. We know that nature is nature, but one expect for a superjeep to be able to drive in severe conditions. And if not, better not to offer the activity during winter time. Overall, nice day on the typical southern coast road, but no superjeep experience neither Thorsmork visit.

This tour was voted best day of our trip - even though it rained much of the day. We started our tour in Selfoss rather than Reykjavik and it turned out we were the only 5 people on the Jeep! While there were other people visiting some of the same sights we did, they did not look as happy as we were. That is because of Aron, our tour guide. He makes the short list of best tour guides we have experienced anywhere. The insights he provided, the sights he showed us, the luxury ride of the vehicle - all of these things contributed to the great experience. We have not one regret spending one whole day on this excursion. When you make your reservation, tell them you want to be on TEAM ARON.

We did the Thorsmork Super Jeep tour on June 17th 2022, and had a fantastic time! The day was well paced and we got to see a lot. Each stop that we made had something beautiful and fun to see. This was our first full day in Iceland and a great way to kick off our trip. Our guide was excellent! He made sure that we all got to see things that we were interested in. And also made sure we got through the river crossings on the final hike. I loved the feeling of really being out in nature. We got to climb on rocks, go on hikes, enter caves, cross streams, and more. What an excellent day! Highly recommend!
