    Just West of the Colosseum is the Roman Forum, which for many centuries was the place where the future of the ancient western civilization was decided. We will also provide you with skip-the-line access to the Roman Forum and you will still be under the careful attention of our expert guide. Although today the Roman Forum stands in ruins, for many reigns it was at the very center of Rome’s activities. It started as a marketplace for daily shopping, but as the power of the Empire grew, it became much more important. In this part of the tour, you will explore the remnants of ancient grandiose temples, bustling marketplaces and imposing civic buildings. We will also show you the place where Rome first began – on Palatine Hill. Rome’s ancient existence has earned it the name “the Eternal City,” and its time as the ruling city of the lands bordering the Mediterranean Sea has earned it the designation, “Capital of the World.”

  • All visitors must pass through the monument/attraction security check please allow at least 20 minutes to clear security
  • The exact timings and reservations can vary, dependant on the monument/attractions administration offices availabilities and decisions on the booking day and can be subject to last minute changes. Departure time can differ up to 20 minutes from your selected time.
  • Due to uneven surfaces, this tour is not recommended for those with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair.
  • Please be aware that large bags/backpacks/suitcases are not permitted in the monument/ attraction. Only very small bags are allowed. Please do not bring these items with you on the day of your tour as there are no cloakrooms at the monument.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Dress code is comfortable clothing
  • The Colosseum portion of the tour will last approximately 1.5 hours.
  • The Roman Forum & Palatine Hill part of the tour will last approximately 1.5 hours.
  • These tours are separated by a break to allow time for pictures or to spend more time in the monument or attraction

This experience is non-refundable and cannot be changed for any reason. If you cancel or ask for an amendment, the amount you paid will not be refunded.

Our guide was excellent!! My disappointment was in the size of our group. I paid for a small group size of 6 or so and our group had around 20 people.

We booked the Underground Colosseum Skip the Line Tour for 3 hours. It was supposed to begin at 12:45 p.m. We got a note from the tour that they needed to start at an hour later. We agreed and still thought that with a 4:30 p.m. end time, we would be ok to get to the train. When we arrived at 1:30 p.m., we waited until 1:45 p.m.. Then the guide took us to see the old Rome area first. It was extremely hot and not a lot of shade. Our guide was informative, but did not get to the Colosseum until 3:35 p.m. then she said that there would be a 30 minute wait to the next guide in the Colosseum to begin that tour...the one we paid for and wanted to see. The guide outside the Colosseum said it would be another 1.5 hour tour in the Colosseum. It was 4 p.m. before they started the tour inside the Colosseum. 8 of us had to catch the train back to Civitavecchia for our ship. We got to see 15 minutes of the downstairs Colosseum before another guide escorted the 8 of us out of the downstairs. We reached the taxi at 4:35 p.m. The train barely got us all to the ship. When I sent a message to Viator about a refund since we did not get to see but minutes of the Colosseum, they said they would check with the tour agency to see what happened. They replied back that they would not give us a refund. I inquired why. They said that your tour lasted the exact 3 hour time they advertised and that with the delayed start they ended at 4:30 p.m. If that is true, then the rest of the group in the tour were only in the Colosseum tour for 15 more minutes than what we were a part of. I contacted Viator and inquired about how long the tour was supposed to be inside the Colosseum. Viator said it ranges from 1-1.5 hours. So the tour group associated with this completely falsified their response so they did not have to refund our money. DO NOT USE! There are many more tour groups to use vs Viator. Very disappointed!

It was wonderful to go to the lower levels where they keep the animals and the gladiators practiced, the trap doors, elevators and who they flooded the coliseum and how the did it. It was a great day.
