The Doria-Pamphilj Gallery is situated in the Palace with the same name, built between the middle of the fifteenth and the beginning of the eighteenth century, that previously belonged to the Della Rovere family, then became the property of the Aldobrandini family from 1601 and of the Pamphilj family from 1647, after the marriage between Olimpia Aldobrandini and Camillo Pamphilj.
.A true art lover will be utterly delighted by this museum experience. It's so rare to enjoy in situ art in its original historic setting, a yesteryear type experience. And there are no crowds. You can admire the art in peace and quiet without being jostled by crowds and selfie sticks. The four sixteenth-century tapestries manufactured in Brussels representing the phases that preceded and concluded the Battle of Lepanto is remarkable.

Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, Rome, Italy
Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, Rome, Italy The Galleria Doria Pamphilj collection was started by Pope Innocent X Pamphilj in 1644. It currently consists of over 400 paintings dating from the 15th to the 18th century.
The art collection was meticulously assembled and is still owned by a powerful Italian family, the Doria Pamphilj (pronounced Pom-fee-lee). The museum boasts over 650 works spanning the 15th to the 18th century, including pieces by Bernini, Caravaggio, Velazquez, Titian, Carracci, and Bruegel.
Despite the painting’s realism, the Pamphilj family keeps it in a special place, and it has had its own room since the 19th century.

This gallery is absolutely amazing, and the audio tour helped us understand and appreciate the story of the family that owns it. It is narrated by a member of the family (descendants of a pope) who apparently still lives there.
Obtaining these tickets is a bit confusing, so let me explain the steps:
1-Pay in the Viator app or website (the app is very good)
2-You'll get a message saying to go to an address about 1/2 mile from the gallery to pick up the actual tickets. Here's the first tip: you don't have to do this. Just go have a Campari someplace and wait for step 3.
3-Eventually (it was about 12-18 hours later for me), you'll get one email for each ticket. In that email is a link that will say something like "bigliettoA4-123456.pdf". That appears to be a file, but it's actually a link to Viator.com.
4-I found that when I clicked it on my phone, it opened the Viator app but didn't show me the actual tickets. Here's the second tip: do one of these:
a-open the email on a computer rather than a phone, which will then put the ticket in your download folder, from which you can print it.
a-forward the emails to your hotel concierge and let him/her print the tickets.
c-on your phone, press and hold the link until you get a menu from which you can open it with a browser rather than the Viator app.
5. Show up at the gallery, not the address in step 2 and show them the ticket. You'll be directed to a turnstile where you can scan it for entry without having to go to the ticket office.
None of this is difficult but it took a bit to figure out. Enjoy the gallery! It's great.
