This tour is a chance to visit the 3 sites of the Colosseum Archaeological Park with a licensed guide. Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, the Colosseum is one of the most famous monuments in the world and the symbol of the Eternal City. Inaugurated with a solemn ceremony that lasted 100 days, it was used for gladiatorial fights and wild animal hunts. It had a capacity for more than 50.000 people and the ability to protect the spectators with a large awning called Velarium. The Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome, is considered the place of the foundation of the city. It was the most exclusive neighborhood where emperors built their palaces and the site is now a large open-air museum. From the Palatine, the tour will across the Roman Forum, for centuries the center of Roman public and economic life, where the most important structures of the ancient city were located.

    The transport car picked us up about 8:30 and took us to the meeting point across the street from the Coliseum. Our guide was Monia, and she was fantastic and very entertaining. We started at the Palestine Hill then went onto the Roman Forum. This trip allowed me to wait at the bottom of the Palestine Hill while the others went to the top. That took about 1 hour. We then went to the Forum where Julius Caesar ruled and later executed and cremated. Monia then took us to the Coliseum and gave us the history of it. She left the tour about noon and we had time to roam about. When we left we needed a taxi, so we followed all the exit (uscita) signed. Upon exiting, look over to your left and you will see an orange building. The taxis are in front. Monia really was a joy to tour with. She didn’t rush us, and slowed down when us older folks needed it.

    This tour was great. Guide was very knowledgeable of the history and facts. Loved the colluseum. Palatine hill was a wonder. Definitely recommend this tour. 3.hours long
