Get access to areas not available to regular ticket holders, including the underground level where the wild animals were kept before they released onto the arena and where gladiators waited for their turn to fight. Be amazed as history is brought to life as you discuss the political and social reasons for the games and events. You will also see some reconstructions of the machinery the Romans used to lift the wild animals or to create the "special effects" for the games.     I highly recommend getting the underground tour. You get to experience and visualize the intensity of the Colosseum. Geovanna was a great tour guide! Knowledgable and considerate of our well being because it was 100F° that day ???? Made sure we were in the shade and had our water bottles filled. My underground tour was at 4pm. It included the Palatine Hill afterwards. If you are like me, and like to fully submerse yourself in museums/archaeological sites - I would take a much earlier tour if possible. Palatine closes at 7pm. Also, the underground tour has the gladiator helmets - replica’s and the actual 2000 year old ones too!

    Excelent tour. Our guide was wonderful. We skipped all the lines. She was funny and took pictures of all. The place is wonderful
