    It is the oldest public museum of all of Europe, created at the end of the XV century by Pope Sistus IV, the creator of the Sistine chapel. Here we will admire the incredible collection of Roman antiquities, with some exceptions like Bernini's Baroque statues, exposed in an incredible palace decorated with famous frescoes. A journey in the ancient times, to understand and indagate many aspects of the ancient Roman life.

    The square is an interesting work of urban reorganization designed by Michelangelo. Stands out in the middle of the square, the copy of the Statue of Marcus Aurelius (the original is inside the Museum). The square that we will see in detail is an example of the Renaissance architecture.

This tour was GREAT! The museum contains so many of the amazing artworks and sculptures removed from all the surrounding ruins. It helps bring the ruins to life. Our guide knew so much history and explained the art so well. We could appreciate what we were looking at. She also made it so accessible for our 13 year old. A very good story teller. The museum isn't crowded and is a real gem. Highly recommend. Possibly (?) the Vatican museum has more Roman statues, but it is much harder to view them there with the thousands of people crowded around you.

Esperienza fantastica e indimenticabile. Vincenzo, la guida, è in grado di rendere l'esposizione degli argomenti accattivante e coinvolgente, arricchendo la storia di aneddoti e curiosità. La visita è stata caratterizzata da un continuo scambio tra noi e Vincenzo, capace di incantare con la sua passione e professionalità. Grazie ai suoi racconti siamo diventati gladiatori dell'antica Roma e abbiamo combattuto nel Colosseo; ci siamo immersi nella vita degli imperatori romani e della popolazione di allora; abbiamo potuto conoscere le loro usanze e le loro tradizioni. Tour altamente consigliato (se già non si fosse capito dalle mie parole) e complimenti a Vincenzo per la sua bravura, grazie a lui non dimenticheremo facilmente quello che abbiamo potuto vedere!!

We had an incredible and fun experience with our guide, Vincenzo. A truly private tour — we were lucky to go in the late afternoon while the museums were not busy and we had a spectacular experience. We cannot stress for you how fabulous Vincenzo was and is as a human. Run, don’t walk, to buy your tickets for the private tour!
