    You will start the tour meeting your friendly, professional guide at our meeting point in the very center of the city in Piazza Venezia. This square has been the center of the city for over 2000 years and the architects who shaped the view we see today range from Julius Caesar to Napoleon and even Michelangelo, whose artist’s studio was in this very square! Here you will learn about all the different influences that shaped Rome over its long history and made it the city that it is today. You will also get a view of the large monument Altare della Patria, more commonly known as the Vittoriano as it is a monument dedicated to Italy's first King.

  • Largo di Torre Argentina, Rome, Italy
    From Piazza Venezia, a short walk will take you to Largo di Torre Argentina where ancient temples stand towering over the actual spot where Julius Caesar was assassinated. Here you’ll learn more about Julius Caesar’s incredible life and gruesome death, how he went from an unknown soldier to ruling an empire, and why it was all so violently taken from him.

  • Piazza Navona, Rome, Italy
    From there the tour continues to the beautiful Baroque square of Piazza Navona to see the famous fountains designed by Bernini. Learn about his rivalry with Borromini, the great master who was building the Church of St. Agnes next door and the fight that this led to, and see the place where Tom Hanks almost drowned in the film ‘Angels and Demons’. Your guide will also give you insight into the tradition of having aperitivo on the square and tell you of the best places to partake in this Italian cultural experience.

    Next we go towards the Pantheon, the Christian church that was once a temple to all the Roman gods, and admire the architecture of the iconic freestanding dome that has stood in its original form since the emperors ruled Rome. Here, for those who want it, we have the opportunity to stop for a coffee or a gelato before moving on toward the Trevi Fountain, stopping on the way to see some hidden gems.

    The Trevi fountain has become one of the most iconic monuments of the city and the backdrop for many on screen legends from Audrey Hepburn to James Bond, and throwing a coin over your shoulder into the fountain ensures that you will come back to the city. We will stop and admire the fountain while you learn the history of the site as well as exactly how to toss your coin into the fountain.

  • Spanish Steps, Rome, Italy
    Last but not least, the tour heads towards Piazza di Spagna and the world famous Spanish Steps. Surrounded by the top fashion brands today, the steps leading up to the church Trinita dei Monti have always been a fashionable place to hang out since they were completed in 1725 and have been a common haunt of artists, models and poets to this day. The tour ends at the top of the stairs looking over the city from one of the best views in town where you can soak it all in and wonder what is next for this ever-changing city.

We originally booked a tour with another group and were scrambling around to find them only to discover later that the tour got canceled. In our attempt to find where the tour had gone, we metJames and two other people in his small group tour. He helped us try to find our group, but then when that proved to be futile, he graciously made arrangements to add us to his tour. He checked with the others to make sure they were cool us joining them and they happily welcomed us to the group. I’m so happy that the other tour canceled because James was a SPECTACULAR guide! His knowledge of Roman history was extensive. Every story he told us was fascinating; really bringing ancient history to life. He spoke about the historic figures like Caesar, Bernini, Raphael and Michelangelo like they were actual people and not just occupants of dusty old text books. James was filled with information that didn’t feel like it was straight from a script. He answered our questions knowledgeably and was never stumped by our queries. The spots we went to were typical tourist places, but James went above and beyond the typical tour guide rhetoric. He gave us unique stories and little things to focus on; things that we might’ve missed otherwise. There was a sort of art history bent to the tour, which we loved. The easy-going, conversational aspect of the tour made it feel personalized and special. We were able to learn so much about Roman history—and there’s a LOT of history—in such a short amount of time. The hours flew by too quickly and we were sad for it to end. We HIGHLY recommend this tour. It was such a happy accident that we ended up on James’ tour and we’re thrilled that it worked out the way that it did. What a great way for us to kick off our first vacation day and our very first time in Rome. Grazie!

Great guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Stressed hydration and tried to find shade where possible. Would definitely recommend to others!

We did a food walking tour in the early evening with Leona, and we had a wonderful time! Her enthusiasm for Rome was infectious! I loved the spots we hit during the tour as well.
