    Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years and is today one of the official residences of His Majesty The King. Occupying over 10.5 hectares, the Castle offers a varied day out for visitors, including a visit to the magnificent State Apartments and St George's Chapel. The Castle's State Apartments are furnished with some of the finest works from the Royal Collection, reflecting the changing tastes of the Castle's royal occupants, particularly those of Charles II and George IV. Many of the works of art are still in the historic settings for which they were first collected or commissioned by the kings and queens who have lived at Windsor. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the Castle with a free multimedia tour. From October to March, visitors can also walk through the sumptuous Semi-State Apartments, which served as the private rooms of George IV in the 19th century.

We were scheduled for the afternoon tour on Saturday, June 28th and the day before we flew to London they cancelled due to "low attendance". Since we had planned our other daily activities around this afternoon tour, it left a gaping hole in our schedule. How in the heck is there low attendance on a Saturday during the peak tourist season for a popular attraction? Sometimes these tour companies need to just suck it up and provide good customer service. We question whether our discounted fare via Tingly caused them to cancel us in favor of more expensive fares. It would be interesting to know this. Would definitely not recommend this company.

It was a dream to finally see Windsor Castle in person. Sadly, all we got to see was St George’s Chapel. There wasn’t time for anything else. We also were suppose to have had a tea service as part of our package. Nothing. It wasn’t what we had thought it would be as far as what we had booked and paid for. But, seeing the history there was beautiful! Paying our respects to the late monarchs was very moving.

It took 2 hours to drive to Windsor Castle on a Wednesday and another 2 hours to return to the bus stop, leaving us with ONLY 2 hours to tour the entire castle. Bus air conditioning was on high throughout the return drive with frigid air below 60 degrees. Driver would not adjust the air conditioning. Evan Evans “tour guide” provided zero narration while on the bus and was merely a a group leader to get us into the castle.
