Akagera game drive, combined with Ihema Lake Boat Ride. We leave Kigali early and drive for an estimated 3.5 hours to reach Akagera National Park. With our local and friendly tour guide, the transport is assured with a 4x4 Toyota Rav4 car with WIFI onboard to keep you connected with your loved ones and the world (***Some spots in the park do not have connectivity***).
The game-drive is spiced with the stunning one-hour Ihema boat ride.
Spend the entire day through the park to depart back and reach Kigali in the evening. Akagera National Park has a diversity of wildlife including buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas and many others. After a long time being extinct, the black rhinos and lions have recently been restocked though their sighting is always not guaranteed due to their small number and the hiding character of the black rhino. Enjoy the game drive viewing the natural habitat of different animals, birds and enjoying the view of different lakes and landscape.

Tito was a brilliant guide and driver - and it was a long day. Half way through there was a thunderstorm, making the route impossible, but heading back the way we came meant we saw elephant, which we’d missed going in. A great day trip.

It was a great day and a great tour with Olivier and our tour guide Dominique.
I had a tour with Olivier last sunday, which happened to be during the rainy season, so the tour was with some extra adventures - i.e. getting stuck in the mud next to savannah and having a short-to-medium walk to the car once it got pushed out of the mud with the help of park employees.
However, Oliver and Dominique remained calm and managed the situation in a very professional manner and everything was solved without any major issues. I guess major takeaway here would be to be extra careful during the rainy season and perhaps try to time your visit on a month with low rainfall.
The safari itself, needless to say, was amazing - we saw elephants, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, baboons, Pumba & Timon, buffalos, python, antelopes and other animals. We only missed out on the lions due to getting stuck, but I'd be happy to come back again for them and I would go with Olivier again, who was very helpful and nice throughout.
Also big compliments to our tour guide Dominique, who was extremely knowledgeable about all of the animals and patiently answered all of my questions about animal hunting and drinking patterns and more :)
