Cu Chi Tunnels - Waterway Trip Half Day Morning Tours

Went in the morning (7am pick-up from central Saigon) with Les Rives. Travelled there by speed boat up the Saigon river. Journey took just over the hour. Excellent trip, don't even think about going by road. Crawled through tunnels and saw lots of exhibits on tunnel warfare. Fascinating insights into this part of the war. Reconstructed tunnels are quite a bit bigger than the originals (which we saw), so are quite easy to get through. Firing range not included in overall price (which I knew in advance). Cost was 68k VND per bullet, with a minimum of 10, so overall cost 680K or near enough £20. I chose the AK47, which was on semi-automatic (single shot). It was OK but kept jamming. Never hit the target, but they wouldn't let me fire left-handed (that's my excuse anyway). With hindsight, the fully automatic M60 might have been the sounder choice. Overall, this was a great trip. A must-do when in Saigon. Morning was probably the right time to go, as the whole place was starting to get pretty crowded by the time we were leaving at about noon. Had some pretty good food at the restaurant (incl in price). Would recommend Les Rives.

The site is meticulously preserved and thoughtfully presented, allowing visitors to walk through narrow underground passages, see original booby traps, and explore living quarters that housed fighters during the Vietnam War. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable, sharing vivid stories that bring the history to life with respect and clarity. A fascinating part of the visit is the screening of an old North Vietnamese propaganda documentary, shown in a small theater on-site—it’s a remarkable piece of history in itself, offering a raw and unapologetic portrayal of the conflict from the Vietnamese perspective. The visit not only highlights the incredible resourcefulness of the Vietnamese people but also encourages reflection on the broader human cost of conflict. A must-see for anyone interested in history, perseverance, and the spirit of survival. We took the speedboat from Saigon to get there - and then back to Saigon.

Really excellent and informative trip by speedboat to the tunnels. Our guide Lucky was very well informed and really brought the experience alive. The ingenuity of the soldiers who built lived in the tunnels was incredible. We went early which was a good idea to miss the crowds that came by bus later.
