  • The Battle of Long Tan, Vung Tau, Vietnam
    Let’s Go! Following pick up at your hotel at 8:00am, we’ll take a pleasant 1 and 1/2 hour drive to Ba Ria Central Market. On the way, we’ll stop to stretch our legs and pick up your local guide for the Long Tan – Nui Dat area. Your guide will give you an introduction to the Ba Ria area and history. Then, we’ll head to the Phuoc Long Tunnels, a 1.4km tunnel system where our guide will tell fascinating stories that illustrate the life of the Viet Cong during the wartime. He or she will also explain how the cashew nut grows. Vietnam is the largest producer and exporter of cashews in the world!

  • Nui Dat hill, Ba Ria, Vietnam
    Step Back In Time In Nui Dat & Luscombe Airfield Next, we’ll arrive in Nui Dat, or SAS Hill, the former base of the Australian Army. Our guide will illuminate the important history of this area, showing photos so that it is easy for you to remember or imagine this period in time. Then we’ll drive to Luscombe Airfield, which has been preserved in a small village. Our guide will tell you the stories associated with this significant site. Here, we’ll also have a chance to visit the kindergarten built by Australian Veterans.

  • Long Phuoc Tunnels, Ba Ria, Vietnam
    Absorb The History Of The Battle Of Long Tan We’ll continue on to the Long Tan Cross, the most emotional part of the tour. With flowers and incense, we’ll perform a ritual ceremony to show our respect for the people who passed away in this place. After this, we’ll view Horseshoe Hill from the main street because the area itself is protected due to bombs and landmines which still remain buried.

  • Vung Tau, Vung Tau, Vietnam
    Take In The Sights In Vung Tau City Leaving Nui Dat, we’ll head to the beach city of Vung Tau where we will enjoy a delicious lunch with a sea view. Then we’ll visit the must-see spots of Vung Tau, including a climb to the top of the lighthouse where we can view the whole city and the East Sea. Going back down, we’ll visit the last King Bao Dai’s White Palace. The Adventure Isn’t Over Yet! Before we head back to Ho Chi Minh City, we’ll have a chance to take a photo with the famous Statue of Jesus on top of the hill. We’ll return to HCMC around 5:00 pm and drop you off at your hotel or anywhere you would like to go within HCMC. Before farewell to our guide, please make sure you get some good recommendations from him/her on where to further explore the city.

My two teenage daughters and I booked this tour primarily to explore the local area near where we were staying. We had no idea about the Australian connection to the area during the Vietnam war. Our guide Binh (wombat) was very knowledgeable and gave us a very detailed explanation of the history delivered in a way that was both informative and enjoyable for my teenagers. The tour overall was a good balance of history, culture and the major tourist attractions. I would highly recommend this tour, particularly for Australians and New Zealanders or those with an interest in military history. The seafood lunch in Vung Tao overlooking the water was lovely.

We found Nam to be both professional and informative. He had researched the area well and was able to take us to sites that were close to being lost forever. I would recommend this tour to any Australian vet or historian asap before all is gone

The Long Tan Battle was not something we knew a lot about before heading on this day trip other than it involved Australia & New Zealand troops (& why we were interested to learn more). Whilst there is plenty to see a lot of the spots you visit are not as they were during the war and/or are not maintained well. However, Nam our tour guide brings the places to life with his photo book & veteran stories.....and a cold beer available at one of the last sites seemed fitting. Maika Tours were easy to deal with & offered flexibility for our private tour group which was appreciated.
