This half-day Mountain biking tour will allow you to experience the Village of San Jose Succotz which is a Maya descendent. This ride is really fun and not very technical mostly on dirt road, and rugged single- and double-track ride but some potholes and roots to make it interesting . A long slow climb, then downhill into farmland next to the Mopan river where you Tour guide will be sharing his knowledge of the flora and fauna. He will be doing stops on the way for you to enjoy the scene and birds. Then the ride will take you across the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry and pedal uphill to Xunantunich Maya Site. you will see the country’s second tallest Mayan temple, El Castillo (the Castle). Explore the archeological site with your professional guide before. A two hours guided tour will be enough to visit the site. After the tour you will be riding down where the tour guide will be stopping at the river bank for you to enjoy or snack or have a refreshing swim at the Mopan river.

    After hotel pickup in San Ignacio, get ready for an adrenaline-filled adventure on a mountain bike! Your challenge begins in the outskirts of San Jose Succotz, where your expert guide suits you up with a bike and helmet, and offers a brief overview and safety training. Then follow your guide as you pedal up the mountain on a single track, dodging tree branches and jumping over tree roots along the way.
  • Xunantunich, Belize
    Afterward, the road turns into a less strenuous double track as you ride through a more open area, where you’ll admire panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Continue through open pasture and semi-deciduous forest to a beautiful riverbank where a picturesque single track leads you to the village of Succotz. Here, hop on a 19-century hand-cranked ferry for the quick journey across the Mopan River. When you reach the other side, ride your mountain bike uphill for 1 mile (1.6 km) on a paved road to the Mayan city of Xunantunich. When you reach the site, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the archeological ruins with your guide, including El Castillo, the second tallest Mayan structure in Belize. After climbing to the pyramid’s towering summit, enjoy spectacular vistas of the Cayo District. Then, hop back on your bike for a speedy ride downhill. Your adventure ends with transport back to your San Ignacio hotel.

This trip was such a fun experience. We got close to 10 miles total over the 5 hours that we were out and we got to experience a lot of the country, trails, farm animals, and Myan ruins. The bikes need a little work but they’re looking to get better ones. Made the ride more interesting.

I would not recommend this trip until they get new bikes. The bikes we used were a death trap, and the only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 0 is because our guide was EXCELLENT. He did his best to tighten the seats that kept slipping, but the derailleurs needed adjustment, tires were low, the handlebar on my friends bike nearly fell off, and his helmet was too small (only offered one size). The company provides the bikes, not the guide, so I didn’t blame him. Otherwise, the tour of the ruins was amazing and like I said our guide made up for all the mechanical and safety issues we were having. Luckily me and my friend are two young men who are just about down for anything, so we soldiered on in the rain. Selwyn was really a gem, and I hope they provide him with better equipment.
