First, the good…..we visited 5 different venues, all easy walking within the Centro. The selected dishes were all iconic, including Molé, Chiles en Nogadas, Jicama taco and others. The servings were full size, not simply small tastes. We were all VERY full by the end.
Now, the not so good…was very confused by the history narrative. We had a long, rote speech about the history of Mexico, lots of dates, frankly a bit boring. At our first restaurant, spent about 20 minutes telling history before the soup was delivered. The soup was lukewarm, and very little was said about it. At the second place, same narrative. Wanted to hear more about the food, although Molé story was interesting. Turns out someone talked to the guide and said less history, more food stories. It got better. I felt some of the restaurants were not welcoming, especially El Pegasus. They put loud guests in our little room making it hard to hear. And finally, although I know guides work for tips, I think asking for them…twice…is bad form.
