Our recent food tour in San Miguel de Allende, led by the exceptional Elisa Torres, was a mix of highs and lows. Elisa was undoubtedly the highlight of the experience. Her warmth, extensive knowledge of the city’s history, the Catholic Church, and local traditions brought depth and meaning to the tour. She mentioned offering other tours, and based on her expertise and engaging personality, I would absolutely seek her out again.
Unfortunately, while Elisa’s guidance was outstanding, the food aspect of the tour left much to be desired. The first three restaurants we visited were unremarkable, with some dishes falling below expectations. Although the final two stops were more enjoyable, they didn’t fully redeem the overall culinary experience. Compared to food tours we’ve experienced in other destinations, this one fell short in terms of quality, variety, and portion sizes. The selections were redundant, featuring an overabundance of tacos, and the tour felt overpriced for what it delivered.
While Elisa’s talent and passion deserve recognition, the food component did not meet the standard we’ve come to expect from similar experiences. Regrettably, I cannot recommend this tour, though I would gladly join another led by Elisa in a different context.
