If you are solo, have a large group, don't see your date available or have special requests message me! * Your host is a passionate chef and former winemaker with inside knowledge in the world of wine and La Rioja! We're going to have a great time together on this private tour that can be customised to your liking. Count on stopping at 3 different wineries for tastings, taking a guided tour at at least one winery, driving through the countryside, stopping for a spectacular lunch and visiting a timeless village.
  • Getting sleepy from all that wine? We'll stop for coffee!
  • We will do a full tour at one winery & visit 2 more for tastings, stop for lunch, walk through a medieval village & drive through the countryside on this wonderful day trip.
  • Depending on your preference we can dine at a winery, in the countryside or in the town of Laguardia. I recommend we do something traditional featuring classic Rioja cuisine and wine!

  • Haro, Haro, Spain
    We usually start our day with a tour and a tasting just outside the city Haro where a cluster of wineries have been crushing grapes for well over a hundred years. It's a brisk 90 minute drive from San Sebastián with stunning views and Haro will not disappoint with classic Rioja hospitality.

  • La Rioja, Spain
    We'll drive through the countryside throughout the day passing by centuries old villages and vineyards. Depending on the day, and your preferences, we'll stop at a unique winery for a tasting and lunch.

  • Laguardia, Laguardia, Spain
    Laguardia is a medieval walled city that is truly spectacular and not to be missed. It's locals only in this unique city, boasting a labyrinth of cobble streets and spectacular views of La Rioja. Oh, there's wine too! Hidden underground in the walls of the city are caverns for storing AND MAKING wines. We'll be sure to visit one of these traditional wineries for a truly old school experience. If we don't have lunch at a winery we'll be sure to do it here in Laguardia the unofficial capitol of La Rioja!

We were Gregory's first Rioja tour since the pandemic and he had no problem shaking off the rust and showing us a great time. It was difficult going because we asked him for the tour not only with many of the wineries still closed for Covid, but also because we were at the front end of the harvest when many more wineries again will close to focus on that. He was still able to book us a full day of tasting (3 wineries, with great wine, tours, and other achievements that make them great like architectural or historical aspects), plus lunch, plus a walk around LaGuardia to shake off the need for a siesta. He even brought some homemade wine for our tasting, and which some of the winery employees and his friends tasted and give him a good ribbing. The guide made travel a breeze and we were lucky because after three wineries and a Spanish lunch we certainly had no business being behind the wheel. We enjoyed that Gregory was a fellow American. He is a world traveler and was able to share so many of his experiences with us. From the culinary world to the agricultural, from Florida to Paris to Cuba to San Sebastian, and including his love of the Basque Country which really resonated with us. We hope to be back and to be able to do another tour with him soon, maybe for the pintxos or for a cooking class.
