It was planned as a hub park for the "Circular Green Belt Concept" to wrap the city center of Sapporo with a belt of parks and green spaces. Construction began in 1982 and it opened in 2005. The basic design was created by Isamu Noguchi, a world-renowned sculptor, and the development was carried out under the concept of "making the whole a sculpture." The vast grounds are neatly arranged with facilities such as mountains, fountains, and playground equipment that use geometric forms extensively. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery where nature and art are fused together.
