The West Mainland Tour takes you to some of the most fabulous spots on the West Mainland of Orkney. The tour takes a scenic drive looking at the magnificent Scapa Flow before stopping at a Neolithic burial chamber. Next is a photo stop at the Cliffs of Yesnaby, some of the most stunning coastal scenery on the Orkney Islands. Next on the agenda is a guided tour of Skara Brae, discovered in 1850, it is considered the best-preserved Neolithic Village in Northern Europe. Your guide will tell you all about this magnificent 5000-year-old village. After the guided tour, you will get free time to have a look at the 400-year-old Skaill House or have a look around the Skara Brae visitor centre. The tour then goes on to the Ring of Brodgar. A spectacular henge monument dating back 4500 years. This stone circle has been part of the Orkney landscape for thousands of years. Finally, we will stop at the Standing Stones of Stenness, which is believed to be the oldest stone circle in the UK.

We thoroughly enjoyed out tour with Lyndsey Orkney Travel on Sunday 23rd July 2023. She was an excellent and informative guide and made you feel at ease the moment you met her. She was very friendly and went out of her way to make sure our experience of Orkney was memorable. We visited the most interesting UNESCO world heritage sites in Orkney including the Standing Stones of Stennes, the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae and Skaill House. We also stopped for a photo at the Cliffs of Yesnaby. Lyndsey then dropped us off in Kirkwall centre near the St. Magnus Cathedral so we could then explore the town on our own. Lyndsey was prompt in picking us up at the cruise port we docked with Fred Olsen on the Bolette. The tour was especially tailored to cruise ship passengers and was very good value for money. I would definitely recommend Orkney travel for anyone visiting Kirkwall. Their website is very easy to book through, I got in touch with Gary he was excellent.

Wir hatten eine fachlich und informativ sehr kompetente Führung durch die steinzeitlichen Stätten. Da wir nur zu zweit waren stand der Reiseführer uns allein für unsere Fragen zur Verfügung. Dadurch konnten die einzelnen Besichtigungspunkte in kürzerer Zeit bei gleichzeitig sehr guter Erkklärung angesehen werden. Die dadurch verbliebene Zeit nutzte der Guide um uns noch einige Sehenswürdigkeiten der Insel zu zeigen. Wir waren rundum zufrieden mit der Führung.

I was fortunate to have both guides (Garry and Lyndsey) both different aspects- stats and data and telling stories behind the sights. I came away with a great sense of historical knowledge and appreciation of the efforts of locals during both World Wars - never knew about any of it. So grateful I chose Orkney tours - these two love their jobs and it shows
