Luhur Uluwatu Temple or Uluwatu Temple is a temple located in the area of Pecatu Village, Kuta District, Badung. The temple which is located on the southwestern tip of the island of Bali on a steep and high rock platform and juts into the sea is a Sad Kayangan Temple which is believed by Hindus to be a buffer for 9 winds. This temple was originally used as a place of worship for an 11th-century holy priest named Empu Kuturan. He lowered the teachings of the Adat Village with all its rules. This temple was also used to worship the next holy priest, namely Dang Hyang Nirartha, who came to Bali at the end of 1550 and ended his holy journey with what was called Moksa or Ngeluhur in this place. This word is the origin of the name Pura Luhur Uluwatu. Uluwatu Temple is located at an altitude of 97 meters above sea level. In front of the temple there is a small forest called the pedestal, functioning as a buffer for temple purity. Uluwatu Temple has several temples, namely temples that are closely related to the main temple. The temples are Pura Brior, Pura Pererepan, Pura Kulat, Pura Dalem Selonding and Pura Dalem Pangleburan. Each of these temples has a close connection with the Uluwatu Temple, especially during its piodalan days. Piodalan in Pura Uluwatu, Pura Brior, Pura Pererepan and Pura Kulat fall on Tuesday Kliwon Wuku Medangsia every 210 days. The manifestation of God worshiped in Uluwatu Temple is Lord Rudra Uluwatu Temple is also famous because right below is Pecatu beach which is often used as a place for surfing, even international events are often held here. This famous beach wave is very suitable to be used as a surfing spot besides the natural beauty of Bali which is very beautiful.
