Luckily my friend and I found out about We Ride Korea from a local who gave them a glowing recommendation. Our guides (Vincent and Kevin) were extremely knowledgeable and made the tour a great experience. We hit the major highlights of Seoul, while also seeing some gems that tourists usually don’t know about. To top it all off, we ended by exploring Gwang-Jang market and got a great taste of a local favorite (mung bean pancakes). Vincent and Kevin were terrific and the entire experience was too. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get to know more about the history of the city in a short period of time.

I was lucky enough to book a tour on a cold February day where I was the only person on the tour. The tour’s guide, Themba, is a natural explorer, the kind of guy who seems to have never met a narrow alley he doesn’t want to bike down. Far from being a bit miffed that I had dragged him out of his warm office to give me a private tour he genuinely seems to love riding around the streets of Seoul pointing out all sorts of interesting buildings that you might never have glanced twice at. A highlight for me was The Blue House, South Korea’s version of The White House. The building itself is beautiful, framed against a dramatic mountain backdrop, but biking really gives you a taste of the tension in the air from the president’s security blanket. In 1968 North Korean assassins tried to breach The Blue House and it still feels like a place where you wouldn’t want to make any sudden moves, a visceral reminder of Korea’s unique situation. From looking around a former bathhouse turned designer glasses store (that might be beneficiaries of the former president’s corruption scandal), enormous buildings that span major roadways in Seoul that can collapse in the event of an invasion and a stop in at a 3D printing lab the tour was so much more than what was on the tin. Like other reviewers have said it felt like taking a ride with a cool friend just showing you his favourite places in Seoul, highly recommended!
