    The Alcazaba was a building used for military purposes. The first Arab constructions date back to the Caliphate period, possibly built over some ruins of a Roman fortress. In the 11th century, the "ziríes" expanded the enclosure, when Granada was the capital city of one of the "Taifas" kingdoms. Even so, the main constructions date from the "nazarie" period (13th to 15th centuries). At this enclosure there are also some Christian additions like the round "Cubo" Tower.

  • Palace of Carlos V, Granada, Spain
    The Palace of Charles V is a Renaissance building in Granada, southern Spain, located on the top of the hill of the Assabica, inside the Nasrid fortification of the Alhambra. The building has never been a home to a monarch and stood roofless until 1957. The structure was commanded by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, who wished to establish his residence close to the Alhambra palaces. Although the Catholic Monarchs had already altered some rooms of the Alhambra after the conquest of the city in 1492, Charles V intended to construct a permanent residence befitting an emperor. The project was given to Pedro Machuca, an architect whose biography and influences are poorly understood. At the time, Spanish architecture was immersed in the Plateresque style, still with traces of Gothic origin. Machuca built a palace corresponding stylistically to Mannerism, a mode still in its infancy in Italy.

Alhambra was one of the most special things I've seen in my years of travelling. Marvellous weather and views over Granda. The palace gives the sense of being in the countryside, with lovely scenery and water features, incredible reflections into the water and a unique and perfected style. Granada itself is also scenic and very nice. I can't recommend this tour more to you!

It is a long day from Seville but worth it. Comfortable coach made dozing easy. The 3 hour Alhambra tour was fascinating and the surrouding scenery incredible.

Wir hatten die oben genannte Tour gebucht und waren nicht zufrieden. 1. Der Abholzeitpunkt wurde mehrfach verschoben (bei der Buchung hieß es erst 6 Uhr, dann freitags vorher, per Whats App, 7:10 Uhr und dann einen Tag vorher, von einer anderen Nr über Whats App, 7:40 Uhr). Interessant war jedoch, dass wir dann an dem morgen um 7:15 Uhr angerufen wurden, um zu fragen, wo wir sind, da die Informationen, dass wir erst um 7:40h am Abholort sein sollten, nicht weitergegeben wurden. Wir rannten somit zum Abholort. 2. Wir hatten die Tour auf Deutsch gebucht und auch bestätigt bekommen. Saßen dann aber plötzlich in einer englischen Tour. Die Dame, die mir per Whats App die zweite Uhrzeit schrieb, antwortete mir aber nicht, als ich nachfragte, was hier schieflegaufen sei. Der Guide versuchte dann noch etwas zu rennten (aber erst als ich mit einem Anwalt drohte) und gab uns dann an der Al Hambra Audioguides auf Deutsch. Vorher fragte er uns aber noch nach der Kreditkartenr., weil er ein Pfand für die Rückgabe der Audioguides wollte, was ich ablehnte. Wir bekamen die Guides dennoch. An sich ging das jedoch gründlich schief, da wir der englischen Tour folgen mussten und garkeine Zeit hatten dem Audioguide zu folgen. 3. Im Voucher steht, dass man dort wieder abgesetzt wird, wo man abgeholt wurde. Auch das passierte nicht. Aus 5 Abholorten wurden 3 Ausstiegsorte. Und der näheste zu uns, war doppelt so weit weg vom Hotel, als der Ursprünliche. Unsere Erkenntnist ist: nie wieder mit diesem Anbieter!
