Departing from downtown Seward at 6pm, the Coastal Classic Train travels north along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives in Anchorage at 10:15pm.

    Should have a quiet car so one person can't ruin the experience for others trying to sleep. Other than that, while it was still daylight it was the most beautiful sightseeing!

    I am not sure if this was just an off day or what, but the only good thing about the trip was the leg room and the width of the seats. When I made the reservations, I wanted to book Goldstar but they were sold out. That was fine, I knew we wouldn't have the large windows, but ok. What I didn't expect was the way the "Adventure Class" was treated, as if we were the poor relations that they were embarrassed by! It seemed like all of the announcements started off, "in the goldstar cars", you can see a moose. It was constant. The train stopped on the tracks for 30 minutes or so, conductor came through our car, didn't speak one word, and kept going. We weren't told what happened until long after the fact when someone that had been in the dining car overheard what had happened and relayed it to us. The worst part is when you get to Anchorage and they tell you where to go to get your luggage. They literally had forklifts moving the luggage to one small area, with no organization and everyone is crushing everyone trying to find their luggage. It was truly chaos! They were constantly yelling at everyone to get back. It was raining so the luggage was also getting wet. The disorganization is inexcusable, it would be easy to organize the luggage on the front side as most of it is checked in early.

    Comfortable and efficient service from Seward to Anchorage with knowledgeable and helpful staff. We got off the Norwegian Jewel early in the am and the train checked our bags for us immediately so we did not have the lug them around Seward. Upon exiting train, bags were ready to be picked up with little to no wait. Recommend upgrading to the Gold Service for the domed glass ceiling and dining service. Would definitely ride again.
